This process is done mostly by machine and not by hand thus requiring the least amount of manual labor. A picture, poster or computer generated art is photographically reproduced into a decal that is adhered to the metal. Epoxy is added for protection.
There are two types of Printed Pins.
1. Off Set Printing or Photo Imprint
Unlimited colors accommodating designs with gradient colors, and shading.
2. Silk Screen Printing - Includes up to 4 pantone colors
This process shows each color very clearly defined. A pin requiring very small lettering and detail needs the silk screen printing process.
The quality of the pin depends on the quality of the original art work provided. The set up is made from a direct scan of the artwork. The pins are colored with ink directly onto the metal surface then each piece is cut to shape. A layer of epoxy is used to ensure the ink will not fade or rub off.
PMS colors cannot be matched on a Printed Pin. Some colors take on a different look. I do not recommend using white in a printed pin as that color takes on the hue of the surrounding colors. Gold looks mustard and silver looks grey. Customers have not been happy with the results. Better to choose a cloisonné pin and have the small detail silk screened onto the hard enamel for a true color.
This is the most versatile pin as any design can be reproduced. Sizes range from ½” to 10” or more.
Ideal for the duplication of logos or photos onto the surface of a lapel pin.
Colors are not bordered by metal lines. |
